Relationship counselling

In relationship counselling the focus of the counselling will be on your relationship in other words the relationship becomes the client. Ideally both partners attend relationship counselling, but is not essential. It is still possible to focus on a relationship with only one person present.

Research shows that many couples only seek relationship counselling when one or both partners have made the decision to leave. Don’t wait until it’s too late! It is much easier to effectively resolve difficulties before you get to the point of leaving.

Relationship counselling can be helpful even when you think the issues are trivial or minor. Relationship counselling can help you to make the most of your present and future relationships. It can help you even if you are not currently in a relationship to understand what you bring to a relationship and how to make this better.

Symptoms of Relationship Difficulties
  • Communication problems
  • Common interests are neglected
  • Sex either stops or causes arguments
  • Arguments are frequently repeated without resolution
  • Feeling dissatisfied or unhappy
  • Infidelity
  • Arguing over how to parent children
  • Anxiety, depression or other health problems recur
  • Repetitive, destructive patterns occur
  • Limiting of social life for fear of consequences

It is normal for relationships to suffer as the pressure and strains of everyday life mount. Love may disappear, replaced by resentment and anger. Each partner can view this differently depending on their own experience of family life. One may despair, while the other may view it as a temporary problem. The key is not to wait until it’s too late!
Relationship counselling can offer the chance to examine patterns of interaction with those around us and how to change these patterns so you can lead a healthier and happier life. You can improve your relationships with others including work colleagues, friends or your intimate partner when you make conscious choices and learn new skills.
